This soulful young singer initially started her recording career as a rap artist, but in San Diego she met up with blues-man Earl Thomas and became one of his backing vocalists. Now she steps out (again) in her own right and in a new role, aided by husband and blues guitarist Heine Andersen, other Danish musicians plus a few Californian guys including guest Dobro player Nathan James.
The results are impressive as she wails soulfully through the southern soul of O.V. Wright’s “Ace Of Spades” and the (musically) Willie Dixon-ish original “New Feet”. Andersen’s roots are clear on Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand The Rain” and Etta James’ “Tell Mama”, whilst Chicago blues, a modern funky blues sound, and the rootsier, more rural approach are also well represented on this fine debut album. |
