Music Review: Missy Andersen - Missy Andersen
Blues Revue
by Tom Hyslop
November 2009

Singer Missy Andersen’s self-titled debut (Main Squeeze Records) dials in a magical classic soul sound. Andersen is a sultry vocalist with range and power, and the musicians have absolute grasp of the idiom – check how the rhythm section kicks “Tell Mama” and the way Jeppe Juul works the Hammond organ on O. V. Wrights immortal “Ace of Spades.” Guitarist Heine Andersen keeps his playing succinct, slinky, and toneful, and the horn charts are right on target (listen to “New Feet” for proof). Want blues? “Little by Little” and “Same Old Blues” receive solid treatments, and the disc closes with Nathan James playing Dobro on the down-home original “Stand Up and Dance.”
